Reason for Fights

These days it is being propagated that conflict in society is due to differences in "Jaati" i.e. race, nationality, community, caste, lineage, position by birth etc., and therefore differences in "jaati" should not be accepted / acknowledged / considered. This is an entirely misunderstood belief and opinion.  In reality, conflict does not arise from differences of "Jaati" (race, nationality, community, caste, lineage, position by birth etc.), on the contrary it arises out of selfishness and pride arising from egoism.

In the world, "jaati" (race, nationality, class, community, caste, lineage, position by birth etc.) differences are but natural.  In various countries there are many types "jaati" of people; not only among human beings, but also among animals, birds, trees and shrubs etc., there are differences of "jaati" that are acknowledged.  Cows, sheep, goats, horses, camels, dogs, and others belonging to different species and within each species there are also variations.  It is by their "jaati" alone that their unique characteristics and qualities are recognized.  Their traders are very aware of each "jaati's" characteristic and these are valued and priced accordingly.  Similarly, each tree belongs to a "jaati" and also the various fruits, vegetables and crops have a "jaati" (class).  The differences arise from the very fact that creation is dissimilar and no two things are the same, even if these look alike.  So the reason for conflict is not ‘jaati’ (class, caste, race, nationality, etc.); rather all conflict, opposition, resistance arises due to selfishness and pride, and these are demoniac traits.

It has been observed that generally there are no fights and conflicts in the different "jaatis" (classes, caste, communities, race etc.), but opposition and conflict exists in the same "jaati" due to pride and selfishness.  e.g. men fight with men and women fight other women.  Among animals, the males clash with males and females with their counterparts.  A male dog contends with a male dog and the female dog with another female dog.  Among monkeys the male monkey leads a female group.  If a male monkey is born, the mother hides it for protection, as the father becomes jealous of the male child and tries to kill it, while it does not kill a female child. This happens among dogs as well. A male puppy is killed by the dog due to threat of future competition and vice versa.

Among Brahmanas (intellectuals endowed with learning),, Kshatriyas (warrior class, protectors, administrators), Vaisyas (traders, business, farming), Sudras (service, physical labor), there is no animosity or fights with each other.  A Brahmana contends with a Brahmana, a Kshatriya with a kshatriya and so on.  It means that wherever the livelihood, occupation, means of sustenance are the same, there alone there are fights, due to selfish interests.  If we consider all people entitled and qualified to do all different types of work, then fights will increase significantly.  By believing so, everyone starts the livelihood that gives more money, name-fame-respect, etc. no one wants to work in the livelihood where there is less money, name-fame-respect etc.  All will want to do higher work, but no one will want to do lower work.  Just, like before only the Rajputs used to fight for ruling a kingdom, but now everyone is fighting to rule.  Before all four "varnas" were doing their allotted work,  but now all are eligible to do work of all the "varnas" there are increased fights,  as these surely  have increased sixteen folds!  Previously all used to live within the limits and boundaries "maryaada" of their “varnas" and stage of life "ashram", and all used to live peacefully.  But nowadays,  by getting rid of the limits and boundaries of "varna" and "ashram", out of selfishness,  many parties are being formed. That is fighting with each other for kingdom (higher position).  For vote of another party, hindus themselves are destroying hindus!   Mother, father, son, daughter all are giving votes to different parties and there are fights at home!  One is spreading the message that there should be equality among all, but in reality there is unity of only individuality.  Mother is separate, father is separate, wife is separate, son is separate, brother is separate,  all are becoming individualists!  The reason is establishment of "varna" and "ashram" was out of customs, limits and boundaries "maryada,"  and out of duty, but parties are created based on selfishness.

It is due to selfishness and pride that men of a particular "varna" (the four classes into which Indo-Aryan society is divided), stage of life "ashram", religious sect "sampradaaye" etc.  favor those individuals of their your own "varna" etc., whereby they praise their own "varna" etc. and criticize the others.  On this subject there is a story.

There was a prostitute.  It came in her mind that how can she attain spiritual upliftment?  She went to "sadhus" for her spiritual growth, and they instructed her to keep the company of "sadhus."   Sadhus are renunciates, therefore serve them then you will be benefited.  Then she went to Brahmins, and they said, that sadhus are false,  we are Brahmins from birth.  Brahmins are the real Gurus from birth,  therefore serve the Brahmins then you will be benefited.   Thereafter she went to a recluse "Sanyaasin" (one in fourth stage of his life), and he said that "sanyaasins" are the master of all "varnas,"  therefore, serve them and by doing so, you will be spiritually uplifted.  Then she went to those who are free from worldly desires, a "vairaagi", and they said that "vairaagis"  are the best of all,  serve them and you will be liberated.  Then she went to various different sects and groups and their leaders, and they said that we are the highest of all, all else are cheats.   Become our disciple, take "mantra" (sacred words or text) from us, then we will reveal to you the secret by which you will attain liberation.  In this manner, wherever this prostitute went, there she found all were praising and favoring their own kind -  their own "varna",  ashram, sect, group, organization etc.   By seeing all this it came to her mind, that now I have understood the essence, the truth.  Ingenuity has struck !  Each one is saying to worship their our kind and not the others;  therefore why not worship my own kind and prepare a feast and feed all the prostitutes.  She invited all the prostitutes.  They all arrived on time.

Outside the village lived a saint who was unattached to worldly objects "virakt" and a renunciate "tyaagi".  He saw the preparations for the feast and wondered what was the special occasion causing the gathering of the prostitutes?  He went there to impart some pratical  knowledge to them.  Food was being prepared.  The cooks were draining the water from the boiling rice into the open drainage.  The prostitute was sitting on the terrace and overlooking the drain.   The Babaji,  sat down and began to wash his hands from that open drain.  When the prostitute saw this, she said,  Babaji, what are you doing?  Babaji said,  can you not see what I am doing?  I am washing my hands !  The prostitute said this is water from the boiling rice,  it will not clean your hands,  rather your hands will become even more dirty.  You need to use clean water.  The Babaji said, are the prostitutes that much more clean and pure that by serving them with food, you will attain salvation?  The prostitute then realized that what the Babaji was saying was true!  She asked him, how will I attain salvation?  The Babaji said -  a saint who does not favor any one particular "mat" (religious, philosophical or political persuasion), organization, group, sect etc., and has no insistence on any one particular individual, whose conduct is pure,  and within him there is no desire whatsoever, then association with – such a saint whether man or a woman, or an ascetic, or Brahmin,  of any "varna" (the four classes into which Indo-Aryan society is divided), stage of life (ashram), organization, etc., listening to him and abiding in his teachings, you can be greatly benefited.

The point is wherever there is selfishness and pride,  there will be desire to hoard and enjoy sense pleasures, there demoniac tendencies will come.   Wherever demoniac tendencies come, there will not be peace, rather there will only be lack of peace, there will be fights, it will lead to downfall.
